About the Flying Farmer

The ‘Flying’ in Flying Farmer comes not from taking to the road rather than the air to offer a ‘go anywhere’ mobile cattle handling service’.

Michael Midgley has used his many years of experience with beef and dairy cattle to collate a range of mobile crushes, hurdles, pens and gates for hire. Most are made to his specification to be stronger and more versatile then commercially available equipment.

This includes the patented Midgley Mobile Cattle Handling System designed to make catching and containing cattle anywhere easier, faster and safer. Like all the hire equipment, it can be stand alone or linked to a farmer’s own handling facilities.

Full details appear on the ‘Equipment For Hire’ page.

Michael used his experience running the family’s mixed farm in Yorkshire to set up JM Midgley Farm Services in 1997. He had set up and ran both a dairy unit and a suckler herd before the business was split up and is proud to be one of that increasing rare breed, a true stockman.

Whilst most of Michael’s hire and cattle services work is in the East Midlands, East Anglia and Yorkshire, he has customers across the UK ranging from stately homes and large estates to small family enterprises, ‘hobby’ and city farms and even zoos.

He has worked with Trading Standards and other agencies and is experienced in solving cattle handing issue in the most challenging environments.

Health and Safety is a key part of the service. The company has its own tailored H&S policy and can supply risk assessments on request.

The latest mobile crush (see equipment for hire) is designed to hold larger than average cattle and bulls and includes the latest electronic weigh which connects to a phone app.

Pen systems for stand-alone containment facilities or for linking to a crush include the patented Midgley Mobile Handling System.
